Halo: Reach

Every so often the stars align and men all over the world turn into zombies.  But unlike your typical zombie, these have numble thumbs and itchy trigger fingers.  That’s right, Halo: Reach is here.  Any one who knows me, knows that my hobby is gaming, and my favorite games are the Halo franchise.  Now that Halo: Reach has been out for a while, I can finally put down the controller long enough to add a new post.  First of all, I think the game is awesome.  It’s different enough from the others in the series to make it interesting, and yet you never skip a beat moving from Halo 3.  I’ve made it though the campaign on Heroic and will start on my Legendary play through after I have spent a little more time in match-making.  I have played through on Heroic first on all of the franchise games. It lets me get the lay of the land before cranking it all the way up to Legendary.    I made it though the campaign in about 10 hours (I enjoy it and don’t rush).  I’ve also spent about an hour and a half trying to get the If They Came to Hear Me Beg achievement.  It’s been kicking my *ss (any advise is welcome).  I’m very lucky to have an understanding wife.  Any time a new Halo game comes out, she becomes a Halo widow (but it gives here time to sew for The City Gate).  Anyways, if you want to play just message me.

Peace and Quiet and Food

Well, Kristan and the kids are on their way back from their big adventure to Iowa.  Every year we load up the car and make the 15 hour trek to her parents farm.   And when she can KB tries to take the kids on a second trip by her self.  So with the wife and kids gone, I thought I would post a few updates (while I can think clearly).

I have wanted to do a post on my favorite restaurants for a while now.  Certainly my favorite local eatery would be Jubilee Seafood.  For those of you who don’t live in the Montgomery,  Jubilee is the best seafood I’ve every had – period.  Nobody can even come close to their sautéed crab claws.  My 4 year – she can eat her own weight up in crab meat (My Lovely Lady).  It’s fabulous, but bring your wallet.

Sometime back in the late 80′s or early 90′s my parents, sister,  my cousin Tracy, and I were over in Atlanta for the week-end.  We dropped in a sports bar in Buckhead looking for a quick bite.  We stumbled upon the worlds best hot wings.  After finishing our first plate, we quickly order more.  I began to sweat, but I couldn’t stop.  Tracy can stand to eat chicken on the bone (one of his many food related peculiarities), so he ordered a Chicken and Cheese sandwich (Num, Num, Num!!).  For the last 20 years I have been getting wings and chicken and cheese sandwiches from the Three Dollar Cafe.  Over that time the Buckhead location has closed along with several others,  but there’s still on in  Roswell and one in Alpharetta.  I’ve made many day trips for lunch at the TDC.

Any one who knows me well know my favorite food is a Cheese-Burger.  I’ve tried ?? for Jimmy Buffetts top 10 list, but none of them hold a candle to Papa Rocco’s in Gulf Shores.  They’ve got the juiciest (read messy) burgers around.  I regret since we have moved our vacation to the mountains, I won’t be getting one this year – sigh.   This is also the only place south of Iowa the Kristan can get a Canadian Bacon and  Sauerkraut pizza (that’s right Sauerkraut!).  If any one is coming up from the beach – I will gladly pay you tomorrow for a cheeseburger today.

The City Gate

My wife, Kristan, has recently started a new sewing business – The City Gate.  She makes a wide variety of bags (purses, make-up bags,  pool bags, etc.).  While I don’t use any of the bags she has made, I am trying to convince her to make me a Star Wars lunch box!  You can go to her Etsy shop, The City Gate blog, or become a fan on Facebook.  I am very proud of her, so please go and check out her stuff.

Memorial Day

Monday, Kristan and I decided to take the kids down town to Prattville’s Memorial Day celebration.  We decided that Memorial Day is a great opportunity to teach the kids about patriotism and sacrifice.  They were very good (as good as a two and a four-year old can be).  I think we will try to make this a new tradition for our family.  Hannah and I also made this weeks newspaper
